We welcome First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students, non-Indigenous Canadians, and international students into our unique two-year Master’s degree program.

Students choose our multi-disciplinary, holistic program because they want to learn how to define development goals that address existing inequalities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and emphasize Indigenous peoples’ right to self-determined development in Canada and around the world.

UÂ鶹´«Ã½ is part of a prestigious international network of 28 universities on six continents that offer the degree of Master’s in Development Practice, all linked together through the Earth Institute at Columbia University. The University of Â鶹´«Ã½’s focus on Indigenous Development makes it a distinctive degree program not offered anywhere else in the world.

Students build practical skills required for development through course work and importantly, first-hand from people engaged in Indigenous development through the two three-month required field placements. To date, our students have completed their Canadian placements with organizations and communities in places as diverse as Gitga’at Nation in Northern BC, Fisher River Cree Nation, Ottawa, and Â鶹´«Ã½. Internationally, MDP students have learned from practitioners in countries such as the United States, Kenya, Nigeria, Nepal, Ghana, India, Mexico, Guyana, and Dominica.
