The MDP is a unique program, offering significant advantages that set it apart from other graduate programs. In addition to completing a curriculum of interdisciplinary course offerings, students in the MDP benefit from a program orientation, numerous skill-building workshops, one-on-one career counselling, and the opportunity to meet and connect with numerous leaders in the field who participate in the MDP as guest lecturers.
Importantly, MDP organizes and coordinates the two required field placements. The program ensures that students receive significant financial assistance toward field placements. This support ensures that students can select their placements based on their career and learning objectives rather than their personal financial considerations. The MDP provides a pre-departure orientation, with a strong emphasis on cross-cultural competency, and a public symposium upon their return, where students share their experiences with the wider community.
MDP is committed to ensuring that the program is financially accessible to all qualified students. Our goal is to continue to offer a unique and complex program and to continue to increase our financial support to students.
Please note:
All accepted Indigenous students will be offered generous financial support of $16K for full-time students and $8K for part-time students.
Full-time Canadian and International students will be offered generous financial support ranging from $8K to $10K and part-time students $4K to $5K. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly at mdp@uwinnipeg.ca for more details.
Since its inception, no MDP student at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½ has paid full tuition. This is thanks to ongoing fundraising, generous donations, program support, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the University of Â鶹´«Ã½'s . We do not accept more students into the program than the number for whom we can provide significant funding.
Through the Career Counsellor and the Graduate Studies Office, prospective, newly accepted and continuing students are strongly encouraged and actively mentored to apply for prestigious awards, such as the Tri-Council Awards, Manitoba Research Award, and the UW Graduate Studies Scholarship. To date, MDP students have consistently been among those awarded these scholarships. Please see the GSO page for more information on these awards.
