Shannon Bear
My name is Shannon Bear and I am from Peguis First Nation. I am the daughter of the late Brian Bear and Florence Bear. In 2016 I graduated from the University of Â鶹´«Ã½ with a 3-year Bachelor of Arts Degree. I have a double major in History and Indigenous Studies. In 2018, I graduated with a Bachelor of Education. Since then, I’ve been employed with the Peguis School Board as the Senior High Social Studies teacher.
It has been a privilege and honor to return to my community to educate the youth. I became a teacher because I know I am able to reach all students and create learning opportunities despite their diverse learning styles and cultures. I became a history teacher to educate children in First Nation communities and raise awareness on intergenerational effects and how that may impact children to succeed.
As an educator, I continuously seek learning opportunities to strengthen my knowledge to be an exceptional educator. My overall and long-term goal is to provide, support and establish education and youth initiative programs in all First Nation communities in Canada.
The Master’s in Indigenous Development Program is the perfect program to help me develop the skills, social network and education I need to be a successful leader and educator.
