Tara Myran

Tara MyranMy name is Tara Myran.  I am from Long Plain First Nation and graduated June, 2019 from University of Â鶹´«Ã½.  I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology (4yr) and Rhetoric Communications (3yr). When I was pursuing my undergraduate degree I was part of the Indigenous Summer Scholar Program (ISSP) at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½ working under the direction of Dr. Cidro. The ISSP program provided me with one of my first opportunities to participate in the field of research. The project “Indigenous Doulas for First Nation’s Women Who travel for Birth” enhanced my knowledge of mental health issues and outcomes for Indigenous women throughout pregnancy. The importance of having an Indigenous Doula present to incorporate traditional practices and knowledge into the birthing process was of particular interest to me.

I believe that the Master's in Development Practice Program will allow me to become an effective development practitioner in the area of health and to incorporate my Indigenous knowledge and experience when working in First Nation communities. I believe that this program will allow me to become more knowledgeable in the areas of sustainable development to address health-related issues that many Indigenous communities face.
