Indigenous Students Awards and Financial Aid

For Indigenous students applying to the Master's in Development Practice: Indigenous Development, please note that all accepted Indigenous students will be offered a generous bursary of $16 000 for full-time students and $8 000 for part-time students. Government Student Aid
The Government of Canada works in partnership with most provinces and territories to deliver student financial assistance programs. The exceptions are Quebec, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut which operate their own student financial assistance programs. To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person.

In-course Awards
In-Course awards are directed to students currently attending The University of Â鶹´«Ã½. Generally you apply for these awards in the Fall term after you have enrolled in your classes. There are both financial need based awards (awards and bursaries) and also merit based awards (scholarships and prizes) available.

Entrance Awards
The University offers a variety of financial support to assist you with funding your post-secondary education. As a new student beginning your journey here, we would like to direct your attention to the entrance awards that we have to offer.
Some awards will be automatically applied based on your admission average, others will require an application. Students who are successful in receiving an application-required entrance award must register for classes in the session for which the award was offered. Only the Special Entrance Scholarship can be deferred for one year.

Weweni Future Scholars Award
This award will be given to an Indigenous University of Â鶹´«Ã½ alumnus/alumna who is entering a PhD program. If the recipient remains in good standing at their institution, this award is renewable once. The award can be held for a maximum of 2 years. The intent of this fund is to help students further their knowledge and expertise in their field of study without financial constraints.

External Awards
Indspire
Indspire is a nationally registered charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to deliver programs that provide the tools necessary for Indigenous peoples in Canada, especially youth to achieve their potential. Bursary and scholarships awards are provided to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students across a diverse range of disciplines.

Indigenous Education Awards
The Business Council of Manitoba is committed to helping Indigenous students attend university or community college. They believe that education is an important component in a student's personal development and greatly improves their opportunities.
If you are of Indigenous ancestry you are eligible to apply for a Business Council of Manitoba Indigenous Education Award provided you meet the following criteria;
- You are a citizen of Canada and permanent resident of Manitoba, having resided in Manitoba for the last 12 months
- You plan to enroll in one of the recognized and authorized Manitoba post-secondary institutions in the upcoming academic year, in any discipline (trades, business, general studies, science, etc.)
- You maintain fulltime status (at least a 60% course load)
- You are in need of financial assistance
If you are receiving funding from other sources, you may still apply for this award to cover additional costs.

RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program
The RBC Indigenous Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Indigenous students to complete post-secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen its relationship with the Indigenous community. Selected students are awarded up to $4,000 each academic year for two to four years to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies and living expenses.
