Prof. Evan McDonough has been appointed to the CITA Council, the governing body of Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA) (). CITA  is the sole Canadian national organization for theoretical astrophysics, and the only national institute for theoretical astrophysics in the world. While based in Toronto, ON, CITA plays an important role in supporting research throughout Canada. In his role on Council, Dr. McDonough will make scientific assessments and provide recommendations for funding decisions in Canadian theoretical astrophysics, e.g. in the selection of CITA National Fellows, a prestigious prize research scientist position in theoretical astrophysics. Prof. McDonough is joined on council by eminent scientists such as fellow Manitoban and Canada Research Chair Tier-1 Prof. Samar Safi-Harb (U Manitoba), and Will Percival, Professor, Distinguished Research Chair in Astrophysics, Director, Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics.

In addtion to his role on the CITA Council, Prof. McDonough concurrently serves on the Scientific Council of the national Institute for Particle Physics () and is the Director of the .

For the 2024-2025 academic year, Dr. McDonough is teaching PHYS-3301: Quantum Mechanics, PHYS-4201: Electrodynamics, and leading a reading course in early universe cosmology.

Prof. McDonough's research interests lie in theoretical astroparticle physics, where his research bridges multiple fields, including high-energy theoretical physics, astrophysics, cosmology, and particle physics. He focuses on topics like dark matter, early universe cosmology, and the interplay between small-scale quantum phenomena and large-scale cosmic structures. Recent work by McDonough and collaborators was published in the prestigious journal Physical Review Letters  , where it appeared with a special "Editors Suggestion" to highlight its significance to readers.
