Research Design and Securing Research Funding

A knowledge mobilization plan is an important part of a strong research design. It is also often a requirement in funding applications. 

Funder policies:

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) have different approaches and requirements related to research impact and knowledge mobilization. Other funders will also likely ask for a knowledge mobilization plan as part of the funding application process. 

While you prepare your research design and funding application the Research Office’s Program Officer, Research Partnerships can assist you in:

  • Developing a knowledge mobilization plan that is appropriate to your research project and your intended research funder;
  • Establishing new partnerships and developing frameworks for evaluating partnerships.

  • Identifying ways to meet funder Open Access (OA) policies, including identifying relevant scholarly journals in your field that have compliant OA policies.
