Palestinian Literature, Film, and Theory Reading Group

Facilitators: Jane Barter, Bruno Cornellier, and Jason Hannan

This reading group is an exploration of Palestinian literature, film, and theory with an aim to thinking with major writers through the present moment in Palestine. Engaging such significant works as Edward Said’s The Question of Palestine, Elia Suleiman’s Divine Intervention, Mahmoud Darwish’s Almond Blossoms and Beyond, Rashid Khalidi’s The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine, and Nalja Said's Looking for Palestine, this year-long series aims to explore Palestinian literature, film, and analysis as  forms of resistance and as a means of informing and expanding faculty members’ familiarity with major writings by Palestinian authors. This critical work is in keeping with the discipline of Cultural Studies and the work of CRiCS as it “engages with pressing issues of local and global consequence and is at the forefront of developing critical understandings of the social and political dynamics of contemporary culture, including forms of conflict.”
