We would like to thank all of the Tech Sector staff who have enrolled in multi factor authentication with DUO. Your experience and feedback are important factors in this project’s implementation and success.
The next step is to enforce the use of multi factor authentication with our accounts. MFA for M365 / email will now be enforced for everyone in the Technology Sector and ACS Technicians starting at 10 AM on Wednesday, February 2nd.
Please ensure you have the device you are using for authentication nearby, when you log in starting on February 2nd.

There will be an email outage this coming Sunday, January 30 starting at 9:00 PM (CT).
During that delay, emails will be queued and then delivered. There will be no loss of emails due to these activities.
Outlook on-line (OWA), accessed through the website outlook.office.com, will also be unavailable during this outage period.
Email services are expected to be available at approximately 1:30 AM (CT) Monday, January 31.
In response to recent feedback, we are delaying the DUO multi-factor authentication enrollment for faculty and staff. You will receive an update when new dates are confirmed.
In the meantime, preparations for the implementation will require an update to the M365 login screen. On Sunday, January 30 we will be making changes that you will see when you next login to the following UÂ鶹´«Ã½ M365 applications:
- MS Outlook (both desktop and Browser versions)
- MS Teams
- OneDrive
- All other M365 Office Applications (SharePoint)
You will NOT get this prompt when logging into:
- Your computer
- VPN

We would like to inform the campus community that the changes communicated on Thursday, January 20 will not take affect on Monday (January 24) as planned. You will not see any new login screens at this time.
Due to technical challenges encountered during implementation, the change to login screens associated with UÂ鶹´«Ã½ M365 applications is being postponed until a future date.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the University of Â鶹´«Ã½’s multi-factor authentication service (MFA) provided by DUO. An enrollment email will be sent to all Faculty and Staff on Thursday, January 20. It will be sent to you from Duo Security with the subject line “Duo Mobile Activation”. We encourage everyone to perform the enrollment at their convenience over the next two weeks. The deadline for enrollment is Monday, February 7.
Multi-factor Authentication provides a second layer of security, requiring you to have your password AND a second form of authentication, like the Duo Mobile Application. This will protect your accounts, even if usernames and passwords are stolen and will validate your identity when you log into M365 or VPN (if you are a VPN user).
During the enrolment process, you will be enrolling a device (mobile phone or tablet) that you will use as your second method for authentication. We found it is easiest if you start by reading the enrolment email from your computer in Outlook. The message contains a QR code that you will need to scan from the device you intend to use for the second factor authentication (i.e. the mobile phone or tablet).
There is a short video showing the process of enrollment: . This will walk you through the process and we encourage you to watch the video prior to going through the enrollment steps.
Once you have enrolled in Duo you're ready to go! You will login as usual with your username and password, and then use your device to verify that it is you.
From your computer/laptop:
- Go to Outlook and open the email sent to you from Duo Security with the subject line “Duo Mobile Activation”.
- In that email, click on the enrollment link to start the enrollment process.
- You will then be asked which type of device you wish to use as your primary MFA device. The recommended device is a mobile phone, which is select by default.
- You will then be asked to install the Duo Mobile app on that device. Once that process is completed, please choose the “I Have Duo Mobile installed”. You will then be presented with a QR code on your computer screen.
- Then please open the DUO Mobile App that you installed. You will be prompted to add your account. That is done by simply scanning the QR code on the computer screen.
- If you opened the activation email on a mobile device, there is also a link you can follow that will do the same as the QR code.
- Once the QR code is scanned, or the link is selected, please select “Send me a Push”. At that point please select “Approved” and the process is complete.

The University of Â鶹´«Ã½ is using a multi-factor authentication (MFA) service from a company called DUO, to enhance security for the entire campus community. Duo does not replace or require you to change your username and password, you will login as usual. Think of Duo as an additional layer of security.
At a high level, it is very easy to use, similar to many two-step authentication services used by businesses and financial institutions to protect your personal accounts. You have the freedom to use the mobile phone or tablet of your choosing to receive the DUO prompt to confirm your identity when logging in to M365, email or VPN.
DUO MFA for M365 (including email) and VPN, will be implemented in early February. Ahead of that implementation, we invite all Faculty and Staff to enroll in advance.
All Faculty and Staff will receive an enrollment email on Thursday, January 20,
An email will be sent from “Duo Security” (no-reply@duosecurity.com) and will contain a link to register your smartphone or tablet. You will be guided through very straightforward steps to register. You will then need to install the DUO app from either the Google Play store or Apple store, depending on your device.

MFA will verify that you are who you say you are, when you log on. In addition to your password, your account will be protected by using another device you have. This prevents hackers from gaining access to your account, even if they know your password.
