EDUC-5001-050 ST: Experiential Education
Instructor: TBA
Dates and Times: TBA
Location: TBA
The Topics in Experiential Education is intended to be the first course of three -- instating the trilogy of the Project-based learning Theory and the Project-based Applied courses. This course seeks to offer Post Bac learners an opportunity to explore the field of experiential education, through theory and through practice. Learners will have the opportunity to read and discuss the historical debate surrounding the notion of experience, beginning with the likes of Aristotle, Kant, and then Dewey. Readings will evolve to show how experiential education is foundational to Indigenous ways of knowing. Learners will engage in scholarly research to explore the variety of models and theories which inform current pedagogical frameworks, and they will begin to design learning experiences for their learning communities.
This course is part of the Â鶹´«Ã½ School Division PBDE in Inquiry Cohort. Only students who are part of the WSD Cohort will be able to register for this course, unless special permission has been given by the Faculty of Education.
This course counts as an elective in the General stream.

This course will explore theoretical understandings of project-based learning — that is learning through authentic, inquiry-based, and rigorous teacher and learner-led learning experiences. As a learning community, participants will examine a variety of conceptualizations of project-based learning, they will deconstruct what we mean by a project, and they will investigate how we create school cultures based on projects. This course will also focus on practical implications of PBL, including assessment, the conflict between inquiry and competencies, accessibility for all learners, and engaging educators within your school.
