Dr. Shakhawat Hossain is an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Â鶹´«Ã½. Hossain received his master's degree in statistics from the University of Alberta in 2002, and PhD in statistics from the University of Windsor in 2008.
Prior to joining to UÂ鶹´«Ã½, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Alabama A & M University and a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Alberta from 2008-2010. Hossain has experience analyzing Canadian health administrative, outpatient and inpatient databases.
His research interests include: James-Stein type shrinkage and pretest methods; model selection methods using LASSO, adaptive LASSO, and SCAD methods; longitudinal data analysis; application of statistics in health services research; and survival data analysis.
