Â鶹´«Ã½:

Anne-Laurence Caudano teaches medieval history at The University of Â鶹´«Ã½, particularly the place of religion in medieval culture and mentalities, the conflictual and collaborative relationships between medieval cultures during the Crusades, as well as the development of scholarship and science at that time.

Caudano's research focuses on cosmology and cosmography in Byzantine and medieval Slavic cultures. Of special interest are the transmission and translations of text between different cultural zones, as well as the place of religious Orthodoxy in the descriptions and understanding of the world.

She also focuses her research on Byzantine mathematical astronomy, particularly during the Palaeologan period (14th - 15th centuries), with specific emphasis on the development of methods for calculating eclipses on the basis of Ptolemaic and Persian astronomical tables, and on the circulation and adoption of foreign astronomical texts by Byzantine scholars.
