Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex
JUNE 27, 2011: Plans for a science facility began in 2006 when the Richardson Foundation, James Richardson & Sons, Limited, and members of the Richardson family made a substantial gift to the University – the largest private donation the University had ever received. The donation was followed by further record provincial funding, as well as federal and corporate. The official groundbreaking for the new structure at 599 Portage Avenue was on November 13 2008 and it was ready for the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Studies to teach classes and hold labs in the fall term of 2011. The building, designed by Number 10 Architectural Group, was awarded LEED Gold designation.
The new Richardson College replaced a Â鶹´«Ã½ landmark from 1906, the Â鶹´«Ã½ Roller Rink. The wood flooring of the rink, out of respect for the historic building, was reclaimed and used as a design feature in the College’s Power Corporation of Canada Atrium.
