Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, seventh UÂ鶹´«Ã½ president
Dr. Lloyd Axworthy was the seventh President of the University (2004-2014), and brought about some of the most dramatic changes in its history. He is an alumnus of United College, was a professor in Politics at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½, and founded the Institute of Urban Studies in 1969; after a career in international politics he has returned to serve the institution again. With a mandate of academic excellence, community engagement, and social and environmental sustainability, he vastly expanded the University’s campus and developed its programs on all administrative levels. Physical expansions during Dr. Axworthy’s tenure include the repair of the façade of Wesley Hall, the Canwest Centre for the Performing Arts, the renovations to the Duckworth Centre, i.e. the Bill Wedlake Fitness Centre & Soma Café, the pedestrian mall along Spence Street, the UWSA Daycare Centre, the LEED Certified student residence McFeetors Hall, the Buhler Centre, the LEED Certified Richardson College for the Environment and Science Complex, the (since-named) Axworthy Health and RecPlex, and the AnX across Colony Street that contain a new bookstore.
